【摘要】:ThispartofBS8723givesrecommendationsforthedevelopmentandmaintenanceofthesauriintendedforinformationretrievalapplications.Itappliestovocabulariesusedforretrievinginformationfromtextresources,suchasknowledgebases,bibliographicdatabasesorcollectionsoffulltextdocuments,andalsocataloguesofimagesorartefacts,suchasthoseinamuseumcollection.ThispartofthisBritishStandardappliestomultilingualandmonolingualthesauri,butdoesnotcoverrecommendationsspecifictomultilingualsituations,whicharegiveninBS8723-4.TheBS8723seriesdoesnotapplytothepreparationofback-of-the-bookindexes,althoughmanyofitsrecommendationsmaybeusefulforthatpurpose.Itdoesnotcoverthestructureofauthorityfilesofpropernamesofpeople,organizationsandplaces,whilerecognizingthesemaysometimesinteractwithvocabulariesofsubjectterms(seealso6.1.1.3).
